Weeknotes #17 (March 01, 2025)

Things I found, read, did, and produced this past week.
Things I consumed
- Framework has a mini desktop PC: the Framework Desktop and it looks impressive for the price. $2000 for 128GB and a 16 core CPU / 40 core GPU Ryzen 396 Plus chip. That doesn't include storage but a m.2 card on top of that isn't really a huge ask. They are supposedly shipping in Q3 of this year.
- The LLM powered Alexa is unveiled as Alexa+. $20 a month on most all devices or free with Prime coming in early access next month. The big thing though is Alexa for years with their API and skills could connect to other tools and do things on your behalf, so it really is going to be the question if people are finally going to take steps beyond basic usage like setting timers or asking about the weather.
- Xe Iaso streamed and wrote this week about Yoke which is an alternative to a tool like Helm for deploying Kubernetes resources, but using WASM behind the scenes for isolation & security purposes. I always am curious in tools that go a step beyond helm as its been the standard for Kubernetes for years, but I always wonder if there is a next step in writing composable resource definitions.
- I went and saw the new Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX preview movie which is the first 3 episodes of Sunrise's next series that they're producing in collaboration with the team behind Neon Genesis Evangelion. Liking the art style and excited for the full series in April.
