Weeknotes #13 (February 01, 2025)

Things I found, read, did, and produced this past week.
Things I consumed
- I finished Cal Newport's Digitial Minimalism. The key points I got out of it is the emphasis of going against the attention economy and trying to find ways of stop scrolling infinitely on social media sites and actually take control and be able to use that time in a more productive manner. As well, our electronic devices can be useful, but you have to intentionally be cautious and not let yourself waste too much time in these places where you mind can go and rot.
- I started reading the new Marvel Ultimate Universe series that started in 2023 starting with Ultimate Invasion by Johnathan Hickman & Bryan Hitch. Got the collected editions of Ultimate Spiderman and Ultimate X-men in the mail and will be diving into them likely this weekend. I've always been interested in American comics but never dove in, but some friends were getting into these series and seemed like a good starting point.
- Two versions of OpenAI's reasoning models o3-mini and o1 via Microsoft Copilot became available for free this week as well as DeepSeek's R1 model being open sourced. These models take longer to process and return an answer but the pitch is hopefully less hallucinations down the road.
- YouTuber PillarofGarbage put out a video critiquing Severance and current work culture in How Severance Rejects 'Work-Life Balance'.
